Day 69 - Snuba Diving

Snuba Diving.  Yes, that is not a typo!  "Snuba" is the real name of an underwater activity offered in Israel and it sounds like something I'd really like to do.

Snuba is a guided underwater experience geared for people that have no scuba diving experience at all.  It's a cross between snorkeling & scuba.  You are connected to air tanks that stay in a boat  - so you don't go too far.  In addition, your snuba guide stays right by you to truly guide you through the whole experience.  The ratio is at least one guide to two students.

To participate in this underwater activity will require me heading down to Eliat, which is the southern most spot in Israel.  Snuba tours are offered daily by the Snuba Dive Resort and all the dives take place in the Red Sea.  The Red Sea is well known for colorful sea life and beautiful coral.  The cost of the tour should run about $50 (U.S. dollars), which to me seems pretty darn reasonable.  The program runs about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The package price includes all your equipment (wetsuit, mask, fins, and weight belt), guided instruction, and practice in shallow waters.  After that, you and your guide head for a 25-30 minute snuba tour in the Red Sea.

I think this sounds like a really fun thing to do.  I have always been a lover of the ocean, but I have never had the opportunity (or nerve) to try snorkeling.  Since Snuba diving sounds so safe and easy - this might be something I'd really have the courage to try.
